Baby kittens are soooo cute!!! They're so soft and cuddly. So what if our cat keeps having kittens. We always put an ad in the paper advertising "free kittens to a good home". If we can't find homes for any of them, we just take them to the shelter, they find homes for them. Besides, it's a good learning experience for my kids; they can witness the miracle of life.

CONSIDER THIS:

Cats and dogs at shelters are put to death at a rate of 1 every 1.5 seconds.

Ten million animals are euphanized every year in shelters for lack of good homes. IMAGINE--10 MILLION

The one thing that angers me the most is that eventually people get tired of having to cope with the problem of their pet always having a litter. It's almost like the owners blame the cat or dog, when in fact the pet owner is not taking the responsibility of pet ownership seriously.

Our pets have feelings too. They experience pain and loss just like we do. They experience fear when they are dumped on the side of the road or taken to a shelter because they are not wanted anymore. Have you ever seen the looks on some of these animals' faces in a shelter? They look so sad and afraid.

I hope to educate as many people as I can to the many good organizations who can help you adopt and spay/neuter your "special friend".

You can't trust that "good" people will take cats or dogs from the shelter or through an advertisement in the newspapers and give them a good home. Sometimes these people who take animals sell them to labs for experiments, or the animals are used to train guard dogs, or they are used as bait for fighting dogs or used for ritual killings.

My daughter found this surfing the net. Click on the Snuggles Project Logo and find out how we can all bring a little love and warmth into the lives of these precious babies. The people at H4HA graciously gave me permission to display their logo.

Another thing I cannot understand is the reluctance among pet owners to have their animals spayed or neutered. Some of the reasons I have heard from my friends and other people I have talked to.

I CAN'T AFFORD IT. - I tell them: We have some low-cost spay/neuter clinics here. The price of this operation is alot cheaper then caring for a litter, not to mention any medical costs incurred.

THEY BECOME FAT AND LAZY AFTER BEING SPAYED OR NEUTERED. - I tell them: The only reason a cat becomes fat and lazy is if you overfeed it and you do not provide enough exercise for your dog/cat. Take him for more walks (walking is good for you too!) or increase the play sessions.

"WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL!" I CAN FIND HOMES FOR ALL THE PUPPIES OR KITTENS IN HER LITTER. A LOT OF MY FRIENDS DON'T MIND TAKING A PUPPY OR KITTEN. - I tell them: Just think, if your female is spayed, you won't have to worry about finding homes for her litter. Besides, you will eventually run out of friends to give these animals too. What happens when your friends tire of the care needed for these animals, they end up being discarded or they are let outside to roam and contribute to an already serious problem. Can you be 100% sure that these people will have their pet spayed or neutered?

"NEUTER MY MACHO CAT??? HEY, EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO HAVE SOME FUN IN LIFE, INCLUDING MY CAT!! THE CAT IS THE ONE HAVING THE KITTENS, NOT MY PROBLEM." - I won't tell you what I'm thinking when I hear this one! There's not to much you can say to convince someone with this attitude. The only thing you can try to do is to keep hounding and pounding and hope this person eventually gets the idea and takes responsibility for his pet.

Read this story of a feral kitty. I get so angry when I read things like this.
