When I decided to add to our family, I debated between a Havana Brown and a Sable Burmese. I finally decided on a Burmese and Toby entered my life. I drove to The Toklat Cattery in Highland, IN and the owner showed me what she had available. I fell in love with Toby the minute I saw this little furball tossing a little toy around the floor. She was so precious and was purring up a storm when I picked her up.

When we arrived home, Ping, my Redpoint Siamese, was extremely curious. Ping never demonstrated the usual cat behavior when a new kitty is introduced into the household and it wasn't long before Toby made herself at home. She followed Ping everywhere and Ping became her mentor and friend. Ping would try to keep Toby out of trouble, admonishing her when she did something naughty (which was often).

Toby was such an affectionate and loving cat and she warmed the hardest of hearts. I belonged to a Euche Club and whenever I had club at my house, Toby INSISTED on sitting in the middle of the table and we all had to play cards over her. No one really seemed to mind. After Ping was gone, the bond between me and Toby grew stronger. Wherever I was, there was Toby. She would lay across my shoulders as I did my housework, she always sat by my side, she slept on the pillow above my head and she would sit quietly in my lap watching the rain. Every once in a while she would look at me and give a soft little mew, saying "I love you".

Between her 11th and 12th years, Toby became very ill and finally I had to make the decision to send her to a place where she could be young, free and whole again. During her lifetime she taught me about the happiness and beauty in life because of her sunny disposition and beauty. I still miss her terribly and I think of her often. I carry her memory always in my heart and know that someday I will see her again.

My Little Beauty

My confidante...I could always tell you
my secrets knowing you held them in
your heart. You would always have
that special look on your face, I
knew you understood.

You always brought a smile to my face
when you played "bump". I knew you
loved me then.

You were always there, always underfoot
nagging at me to lift you up so you
could be close. You were special, my Toby,
I will never foget you, my friend.

On warm summer, rainy days I still sit
by our window and watch the rain dance
on glass, just as we used to. I close
my eyes and remember....
